About Us
Hello, I am Ashley Harris, founder of Lola Café. My original plan was to name the café after my children's initials, JDK, which would have stood for 'Just Da*m Kookin.' However, I thought better of it, considering the potential reaction from the local church community. I have a background in mathematics and engineering, with a minor in law, which I studied at Claflin University. You may wonder how I became a self-taught chef. In 2020, I gave birth to my baby, and their father was away for basic training when COVID-19 hit, leaving me to care for a toddler and a newborn with limited financial support. I struggled with anxiety, but I found solace in cooking, which led me to start selling plates in 2020. Although I stopped and started multiple times, I eventually relocated from Alabama to North Carolina. Unfortunately, I experienced depression again, but in 2026, I decided to pursue my dreams. I am committed to investing in myself and my children, with the goal of creating a lasting legacy. I am confident that one day, I will achieve success and wealth through my own business. I believe that God has blessed me with a gift, and I am excited to share it with you all.
